The Island Health Division of Nephrology is seeking to add a general nephrologist to join the Nanaimo clinical group of 6 physicians on Vancouver Island. This position is to replace a nephrologist and take over a mature practice.

The successful candidate will be offered progressive full integration into the group with a target equal allocation of 14-18 total weeks of inpatient service and hemodialysis, which is on par with current full time nephrologists in Nanaimo. They will provide service in all areas of general nephrology including kidney care clinic, independent dialysis, and renal transplant clinic. In addition, he or she will share proportionate on-call requirements and will be expected to maintain an outpatient community practice with similar capacity to other full time nephrologists in Nanaimo.

The position requires English fluency and excellent communications and interpersonal skills. The ability to navigate complex advanced care planning discussions is essential. Remuneration is fee for service as outlined by the medical services plan of British Columbia as well as full MOCAP paid in accordance with on-call services provided. Fellowship training in nephrology and medical licensure to practice nephrology in the Province of British Columbia is also required.

Experience placing bedside peritoneal catheters, or willingness to acquire that skill set will be considered an asset. In addition, training or experience in medical administration will be considered a distinguishing attribute as future participation in program development activities will be expected.
